What I'm Reading
Mary Poppins by P. L. Travers
Mary Poppins
I'm taking a step back to read some of the 'classics,' and there is a reason they are called that; they are just interesting, clever, and well written. Mary Poppins is a nanny to Jane, Michael, and the twins, and she has all kinds of tricks for them. I find these 'old' books (1934) have much better vocabulary and that wording makes you use your imagination.
Island of the Blue Dolphins
Another classic is Island of the Blue Dolphins by Scott O'Dell. This book was written in 1960 and tells of a girl named Karana that was stranded on an island near California. She must learn to find food and water and protect herself from the wild dogs.
Both of these books are short and great to read on those looooonnnngggg testing days!
